10 Dorm Room Wall Decor Ideas
1. Fairy lights

Fairy lights are probably the most popular way to decorate your dorm room walls, and for good reason! They offer a cozy, warm vibe to your space, and they’re very budget-friendly! You can string them up across your dorm room walls or even your bedposts to make it look pretty!
It’s super easy to hang up fairy lights in your dorm room, too! It doesn’t require any drilling; they pretty much stay up with masking tape, scotch tape, or command hooks!
Keep in mind that every college dorm policy is different. So make sure to double-check if fairy lights are allowed to be used in your dorm room before getting them.

2. Ivy Vine Garlands

This is one of my favorite dorm room wall decor ideas! When I was in college, I used ivy vine garlands to decorate my walls and the front of my door, and loved the way they looked! Hanging ivy vine garlands in your dorm room will add a lovely touch of nature to any boring, plain white wall! Not only will it brighten up your dorm room, but it’ll also give a calm vibe to your space.
Like fairy lights, ivy vine garlands are very easy to install with masking tape, scotch tape, or command hooks. Also, because there’s a lot in a pack, you can hang them in more places than just your walls! If you have a bunch left over after hanging them on your walls, you could also hang them around your bed frame, on your door, on your desk, or on the ceiling!

3. Photo Wall

Whether you have professional prints, posters, or personal sentimental photos, you can use them to curate a photo wall in your dorm room! This will add a nice personal touch to your dorm room wall decor, as each print and/or photo would be tailored to what you like and your personal life!
If you like this idea but you’re unsure where to get prints and posters, you can find them at your college’s poster fairs, or you can collect postcards from places you’ve visited! You can even make a collage on Canva and print them on Walmart matte paper!
Personally, my favorite way to get prints is to use Freeprints, where you can get tons of photo prints and only have to pay for delivery! This is how I was able to print movie and TV show polaroids that I found on Pinterest to decorate my dorm room wall. Check out how it looked below!

Alternatively, if you have a lot of photo booth photos that you’ve taken with your old friends from home, new friends from college, and your family, you can also create a wall filled with these photo booth strips! This is a sweet way to display your photos and look back on your memories from home and while in college!
4. Grid Wall Panel

One of the best dorm room wall decor ideas for displaying photos is to have a grid wall panel! This will make hanging your photos so easy, as you can use wood clips and binder clips to attach them to the wires.
Not only are grid wall panels easy to install and hang photos on, but they can also hang way more than just photos! If you have trinkets, wired baskets, a small purse, a scarf, or any other kind of accessory, you can hang them all on a grid wall panel, too!

5. Pegboard

Pegboards are a great addition to any dorm room, both for decor and organization. They’re a little bit pricier than a grid wall panel, so they will be perfect if you want to splurge a little for your dorm room wall decor.
For decor, you can use them to display trinkets and momentos. Meanwhile, for organization, you can use them to store stationery and accessories!

Hanging a corkboard is probably the most common dorm room wall decor idea. It’s easy to attach to the wall with command strips, and it’s also easy to customize.
Of course, when you have a corkboard, you’re starting with a blank canvas that you can decorate however you like. Get some push pins, and use your corkboard to display anything you want!
When I was living in college dorms, I used my corkboard to display my photos from when I went travelling around Europe with my friends. Other ways you can use your corkboard are to hang your calendar or trinkets that are important to you!

If you’re up for decorating your dorm room walls with something you DIY’d, then a felt name pennant flag is a perfect piece to make! These felt name pennant flags are super cute and personable, adding a nice charm to your dorm room!
They’re fairly simple and easy to make. All you need is felt fabric, scissors, and fabric glue.

9. Floating shelves

The best thing about having floating shelves in your dorm room is that there are so many ways you can style them, depending on how you want them to function. Your shelf can be the place where you keep your candles, diffuser, and humidifier. Or, you can turn it into a bookshelf! Or, you can simply use it for keeping your trinkets!
Floating shelves generally put college students off because of the fear that they’ll have to use drills to install them in their dorm room. And of course, no one likes getting a huge bill at the end of the year because of holes in their dorm room walls. But did you know you can have floating shelves without needing to drill anything into the wall? Nano grab is a super-strong, double-sided tape that can be used to hold your hanging shelves in place, without any fear of it falling apart or leaving behind residue!

For example, if you like florals, get a mirror that has a detailed floral pattern design that you adore!
