10 Dorm Closet Organization Hacks You Need to Know for College Dorm Living
Use a hanging organizer

Hanging organizers are a game changer for maximizing space and organizing your dorm closet. It utilizes vertical space, allowing you to store even more of your clothes. They even have side storage, which could be very convenient to store those small items of clothing you regularly wear.Â
I find that the best clothes to store in the compartments are everyday clothes like t-shirts and jeans, since it’ll be really quick and easy to grab them as soon as you open your closet door. Alternatively, if you know you have quite a lot of shoes you want to keep in your dorm but don’t have the space, hanging organizers also make great shoe storage!Â
Add clear bins
Place clear bins on the top shelf of your dorm closet to store any accessories you have. If you really want to stay organized, use each clear bin for a different type of accessory. For example, use one clear bin to store all of your socks, another to store your belts, another to store your hats, and so on. This will make it easy for you to find what you are looking for in your closet when you need it!Â
Install a double hanging rod
As a college student, there’s no doubt that you’ll have tons of clothes that you own. It’s all fun bringing them into your dorm, but it’s another thing trying to fit them into your dorm closet, especially when said closet only has one rod to hang your clothes.
To ensure you have enough hanging space in your dorm closet, install a double hanging rod! They hook onto the rod that’s already in your closet, and can be perfectly adjusted to fit inside. It gives you double the space you need to hang your clothes, which is such a lifesaver!Â
Use slim velvet hangers

Bulky hangers take up way too much space in the closet when they don’t need to! So, swap your bulky hangers with slim velvet hangers. Their slim design not only makes your closet look neat, but it also allows you to maximize the hanging space for your clothes!Â
Install a hanging door mirror with storage
This dorm closet organization item is an amazing two for one storage hack. Firstly, you have the mirror that you can hang over your closet door, allowing you to easily curate and see your outfits. Then you have the storage compartment where you can keep all of your jewelry, sunglasses, perfume, and makeup.
What I love about this is the additional features that make it so worth getting for your dorm closet. The mirror brightness can be adjusted by simply tapping the mirror; it’s super easy to charge, and it has a lock and key to ensure all of your accessories are safely stored, away from prying eyes.
Use an over door hanger
Over door hangers are a pretty standard storage hack that everyone already knows about. But what’s often overlooked is the type of over door hanger to get to help maximize space. Yeah, you can get a regular over door hanger with 5 hooks, but what’s better is an over door hanger with 5 hooks that have their own hooks. So what could be a 5 hook over door hanger is actually a 15 hook over door hanger where you can hang many belts, purses, towels, or any other clothes or accessories you want!Â
Use stackable wire organizers

For your everyday clothes that you can easily fold (and are better to fold than hang), such as jeans and sweaters, it’s way easier to store them in something like a multi-tier wire organizer. You can categorize each tier into different items of clothing to make it easy for you to find and take what you need when curating your outfits. This can fit perfectly underneath your hanging clothes.Â
Use cube storage
Cube storage has the perfect depth to store small pieces of clothing and accessories such as socks, underwear, hats/caps, and swimsuits. Categorize each cube, so you know exactly where to keep everything and can take what you need. Like stackable wire organizers, this can also fit underneath your hanging clothes, maximizing the vertical space in your dorm closet.
Use leggings hangers
The typical outfit of a college student going to class always consists of leggings. So if you know you have tons of leggings you’re going to bring with you to college, then it’s so worth getting leggings hangers.
These store multiple leggings at once from front to back rather than side to side, meaning they won’t take up hanging space in your closet! This is definitely a dorm closet essential if you practically live in leggings as a college student!
Clear shelf dividers

Folding and stacking clothes can be frustrating when there’s nothing to hold them in place neatly. This is why clear shelf dividers are so helpful for keeping your dorm closet organized. You just slide them onto your dorm shelves, and they neatly keep your items separate and in place!
