34 Cute Graduation Photoshoot Ideas to Recreate For Your Grad Photo Session

This blog post is about graduation photoshoot ideas to recreate for your grad photo session!

Graduation photoshoot ideas to recreate pin

You did it! Congratulations on graduating from college! Now comes the fun part of this celebratory moment: taking your graduation photos! If you’re a little shy in front of the camera or you’re looking for some ideas for posing, then I’ve got you covered! Here are 34 graduation photoshoot ideas to make your graduation photos look the bomb dot com! These photoshoot posing ideas will make your graduation photos Instagram-worthy with the perfect graduation Instagram caption too!

1. Spray your champagne bottle

There’s no perfect time to pop and spray champagne than for your graduation photoshoot! You’re celebrating a big achievement, so this is a great way to do it!

Now, there is a technique to make sure you’re spraying it right to get the perfect shot, and it’s all about timing. Find the spot where you want to take the photo, pop the cork carefully, and immediately cover the bottle opening with your thumb. Then, shake that bottle as much as you can! Next, slightly move your thumb so that the bottle opening is exposed and continue to shake to get that spray effect! This is one of the most iconic graduation photoshoot ideas to recreate, and trust me, it’ll look so cool!

To avoid sticky hands for the rest of your photoshoot, make sure to do this near the end of your session! Also, keep in mind that you may need to bring a spare bottle in case anything goes wrong with the first one!

2. Drink your champagne

Credit

Including champagne in your graduation photoshoot session doesn’t end with the champagne spray shot! After spraying your champagne, chug some of it down in true celebration of your achievement!

3. Walk up the steps while holding your champagne and graduation gown

Another iconic (and less sticky) graduation photoshoot idea is to find a spot on campus with stairs. If you can find a spot where the top of the stairs shows your college name, then even better! Turn around to walk up the stairs, carrying your gown in one hand, throwing it over your shoulder and carrying a bottle of champagne in the other hand. Make sure your college logo on your stole and the brand logo on the champagne bottle are in clear view!

4. Hold your graduation cap

Credit

One of the most iconic symbols of graduating is the graduation cap. So, for this graduation photoshoot idea, focus on this symbol. Simply carry it on your side and have your photographer capture the moment!

5. Hold your graduation cap and pop your foot

Credit

Another idea involving holding your graduation cap includes wearing your graduation stole while holding your cap high in the air and popping your foot! This idea is perfect to do in front of your college campus as it’s a full body photograph, unlike the previous idea.

6. Toss your notes in the air

Credit

Remember the opening scene in High School Musical 2, where everyone throws their notes in the air when summer vacation officially starts? This graduation photoshoot idea reminds me of that! It looks so cool tossing your notes in the air while wearing your graduation cap to finally mark the end of your college years!

7. Walk towards the camera

Credit

This is one of the classic graduation photoshoot ideas that you can’t go wrong with. Wear your cap and gown with pride on campus and walk towards the camera. Your photographer will probably give you tips on how to make it look more authentic, i.e., not walking too fast so they can take a good, candid shot, but it really is that easy!

8. Holding your gown behind your shoulder

Credit

Another classic and easy graduation photoshoot idea is to stand in a spot on campus while carrying your gown in one hand over your shoulder and your cap in your other hand. This is a great pose to do if you’re a little shy in front of the camera, as it doesn’t require much thought; it’s a static pose that’s very easy to recreate! Plus, this pose is great for showing off your graduation photoshoot outfit!

9. Wear your gown and hold your cap in both hands

Credit

The setting for this graduation photoshoot idea is the college football field! Once you’re there, wear your gown and use your hands to hold your cap on both ends, making sure the tassel is draping down. It may look a bit awkward if you’re just standing straight and holding your cap, so to make it look more natural, play with the angle of your shoulder, cross one leg over your other, and, of course, smile!

10. Wear and hold your graduation stole

Credit

This is another easy pose to do during your graduation photoshoot session. You’ll need to wear your cap and stole, which ideally includes a tassel. Hold the tassel on both ends, slightly turn your head to the side, and smile!

11. Sit on the stairs while leaning on a pile of books

Credit

This is one of my favorite graduation photoshoot ideas. It’s a classic, it’s simple, and there are different ways to recreate it! For this pose, wear your graduation cap and stole, find some stairs, and sit on them! Bring some books with you to place on the steps so that you can lean on them! Just make sure the spines of the books are facing the camera!

12. Place your hands on a bridge railing and pop your foot

Credit

This is a cute pose to do for your graduation photos! Wear your cap and stole and find a bridge where you can lean your hands on. Turn slightly towards the camera so that your face and outfit can be seen, then pop your leg!

13. Hold your graduation cap on your head and pop your leg

Credit

This is a cool pose to do that is much more simple to recreate than it looks! Wear your graduation cap and hold it in your hands as if you are putting it on, then pop your leg!

14. Lean your leg on the campus walls

Credit

This is another classic and easy pose to do during your graduation photoshoot session. Find a spot on campus that has a nice backdrop and walls where you can lean on. With your graduation cap in hand, face your back towards the wall and angle your head as if you are leaning. Pop your foot, making sure the sole is on the wall, and turn your head to face the camera!

15. Look over your shoulder

Credit

This is one of the best ways to rep your college during your graduation photoshoot session! You’re not just looking over your shoulder, but you’re looking over your shoulder with your graduation stole, which has your college logo! To recreate this pose, fold your stole and drape it over your shoulder, making sure your college ogo is showing. Turn your head to the side to face the camera, then smile!

16. Bring your family along

Credit

This is such a sweet and sentimental graduation photoshoot idea to recreate, as it involves your family and/or loved ones.

For this, you’ll need your gown, cap, and stole. Wear your stole and have one of your loved ones carry your hat and another your gown. Stand in the middle, with one of your loved ones standing in front of you, carrying your cap and the other behind you carrying your gown. To get the shot, they need to carry your cap and gown as if they’re helping you to wear them.

17. Sit on a railing

If there’s a bridge with lovely marble railings on your campus, then this would be a great photoshoot idea to recreate! Wear your stole, sit in the railing, and hold your cap in the air

18. Stand in front of a water fountain

Credit

The water fountain on your college campus is the perfect backdrop for your graduation photos. For this pose, wear your graduation cap and simply stand in front of the fountain with your back facing the camera. Turn your upper body slightly so that your face is in the shot, and smile!

19. Pose on the stairs

Credit

This is another classic pose to do during your graduation photoshoot that involves stairs. But this time, instead of sitting on the steps, stand on them and strike a pose. It might feel a little awkward free styling a pose, but for this one, it’s easy to recreate! Stand so that your side view is facing the camera, put one hand on your hips and the other hand on your graduation cap that you’re wearing. Turn your head so that it’s facing the camera, and bend one of your knees to make the pose look more natural.

20. Put your hands on your hips

Credit

This is such an easy graduation photoshoot idea that it really can’t go wrong. Wear your graduation cap, find a spot on campus with a nice backdrop, and pose in front of it with your hands on your hips. Instead of facing straight ahead to the camera, turn your body slightly to the side and play around with your feet positioning for a more natural shot.

21. Pop a confetti canon

Credit

Confetti is one of the best things to have during any celebration, and that includes your graduation photoshoot! For this idea, you’ll need to wear your cap and gown and get a confetti canon. Pop it and watch the confetti fall around you! The shots for this will look so cool and colorful!

22. Hold a picture of a younger you

Credit

For a nostalgic graduation photoshoot idea, you’ll need a photo of you graduating kindergarten. Wear your cap and gown and hold the photo of the younger you so that it’s facing the camera. The aim of this photo is to put the focus on the picture of the younger you graduating while the older you, who has graduated from college, is in the background holding it.

23. Read a book in the library

Credit

This idea requires you to go to your campus library! Wear your graduation cap, grab some books, sit on a chair by a table, and pretend that you’re reading. You can get really creative with this pose, you don’t have to just sit on the chair normally and read. For example, in this idea, the graduate is sitting sideways on the chair with her legs swung over one side of the chair arm while reading.

24. Hold your cap towards the camera

Credit

This one is very self-explanatory and easy! Hold your cap on your hands and lift it toward the camera, making sure that your tassel is in the clear shot!

25. Bring your fur baby along

Whether you have a dog or a cat, bringing them along for your graduation photoshoot is THE cutest idea!! You can dress them up with a bow tie or even a little graduation cap of their own, or you can just hold and hug them. Or you can do both!

26. Sit on the college sign on campus

Credit

Many campuses have a huge sign that offers a platform to sit on. For this idea, wear your gown and cap and sit on this sign! To make the shot more playful and fun, throw your cap towards the camera.

27. Celebrate with sparklers

Credit

This is such a fun graduation photoshoot idea if you want to add excitement to your photos! Wear your graduation cap, hold sparklers in both hands, and light them up for a cool shot!

28. Sit on the campus lawn

Credit

If you’re looking for a more chill graduation photoshoot idea, then you’ll love this! Find a lawn on campus, ideally with the campus building in the backdrop, and sit on the grass while wearing your graduation stole.

29. Blow glitter

Credit

Who doesn’t love a little glitter? For this idea, you’re gonna need to wear your graduation cap and gown, grab some glitter in your hands, and blow it towards the camera! This will make for a really cool photo!

30. Hold a bouquet of flowers

Credit

Flowers are perfect for every occasion, including your graduation photoshoot session! Wear your cap and gown and hold a bouquet of flowers! For this idea, the bouquet is right in front of the graduate’s face, and I think it looks cute!

31. Lay on your front and rest your hand on your chin

Credit

This is a classic pose that you can’t go wrong with! Just make sure that the spot you’re gonna be laying on doesn’t make your clothes and gown dirty!

32. Hold hands with your bestie

Credit

If you’re doing a graduation photoshoot with your bestie, then you’ll love this pose idea! Wear your graduation stoles, find a fountain on your campus to stand in front of, hold hands, and then pop your feet!

33. Hug your bestie

Credit

This is such a sweet graduation photoshoot idea to do with your bestie that brings all the nostalgia vibes! Find a spot on campus that can be a nice backdrop for your photo and turn around so that your backs are facing the camera. Hug each other from the side and hold your graduation caps with your free arms!

34. Sit on the bleachers with your bestie

Credit

Another graduation photoshoot idea to recreate your bestie is to sit on the bleachers wearing your growns! Hold your caps in the air and strike a pose!
