20 Genius Small Bedroom Storage Ideas to Maximize Your Space

This post is all about genius small bedroom storage ideas to maximize space!

Small bedroom storage ideas

Having a small bedroom doesn’t have to be limiting. It just means you need to get creative with storing your things! If you have a small bedroom and want to maximize your space, here are 20 small bedroom storage ideas that can completely transform your room, covering bed, closet, and general bedroom storage ideas!

Bed Storage

If you’re moving into a new small bedroom or you’re looking to completely revamp your current bedroom, then get yourself a new bed frame with under bed storage! There are various kinds of under bed storage you can go for, depending on what works best for you. You can get a bed frame that lifts up, a bed frame with storage drawers, or even a day bed!

As someone whose closet space isn’t big enough to fit all of my clothes, I prefer having a bed frame with storage drawers, as it provides extra space to keep my clothes in a contained area.

Opt for a loft bed

As someone who has had a box room throughout my teenage and college years, getting a loft bed was the ultimate game changer. Loft beds are basically bunk beds, but with a single elevated frame. So there’s no bottom bunk, just a top bunk with tons of floor space at the bottom to store your things.

If you own a lot of things and your room is only big enough to fit a single bed, then getting a loft bed is the perfect solution to maximize storage. With a loft bed, you’ll have so much extra space in your room to put things underneath, from a small couch to even a desk! With the loft bed in my old bedroom, I put a desk underneath it, along with an ottoman and closet drawer,s and I loved it!

Under bed storage trunk

If you don’t already have a bed frame with storage and don’t have much closet space (or don’t have a closet at all), then getting an under bed storage trunk is a game changer. You can easily store your everyday wear, such as underwear, socks, and clothes, with easy access, without rummaging through drawers. Make sure to get an under bed storage trunk with handles to make it easy for you to drag it outside your bed and take your clothes when needed!

Bedside caddy

Caddies aren’t only for bathrooms, you know! If you’re looking to maximize space in your bedroom, get yourself a bedside caddy! This is perfect if you don’t have space for a bedside table. It keeps your bedside area organized with all of your essentials within reach. I hate keeping loose items underneath or next to my pillow, so having a bedside caddy means that I can store my Kobo e-reader, phone, book, journal, and neck reading light inside with zero clutter in the bed!

If you don’t think the space behind your bedframe can be used to maximize the space in your small bedroom, then let me tell you how! You can make your headboard more functional by installing a storage headboard! With extra storage in your headboard, you can put your electronics, books, plants, decorative pieces or lamp in it. This is perfect if you don’t have space for a bedside table.

Under bed rolling shoe storage

This genius small bedroom storage hack will be a game changer for those who don’t have much space to store tons of shoes in the house. The space under your bed is the perfect environment to store your shoes. But if you simply put all your shoes there, it can be a pain bending down and rummaging underneath your bed to find the shoes you’re looking for. So this is where under bed rolling shoe storage comes in.

With under bed rolling shoe storage, you can simply wheel out your storage, see exactly what shoes you’re looking for, and then take them out. The best thing about having under bed rolling shoe storage is that they have 360-degree rotating wheels with lockable casters to keep it from gliding away from under your bed when you’re not using it.

Door hanger

This is probably one of the most common small bedroom storage ideas that even larger bedrooms could benefit from! All you need to do is utilize your bedroom door by installing a hanger over it! Not only can you hook your coats and jackets on these, but you could also hang your baseball caps, umbrellas, scarves, bags, or belts!

Hanging closet organizer

With a cluttered closet, it can be difficult to organize your clothes, especially when you have so little space! So, this is one of my favorite small bedroom storage ideas because it’s super quick and easy to install and use. A hanging closet organizer allows you to utilize vertical space in your closet to store more of your lighter clothes, such as tees, pants, and gym clothes!

Keep in mind that hanging closet organizers are made of fabric, so they can sag if you store heavy clothes in them! Stick to lightweight clothes to prevent them from sagging.

Alternatively, if you do have shelf space above your hanging rod, you can place your hanging closet organizer on its side! This is especially useful if you have a coat closet, as you can use each compartment to separate items such as scarves, hats, mittens, etc.

Another way to utilize door space is to have an over door organizer! What’s great about over door organizers is that they have different compartments to separate your clothes and accessories from hats and belts to purses and shoes. Best of all, they’re super easy to install. You just hook your organizer to your door, and it’s ready for use!

Closet drawers

If you have space at the bottom of your closet that you’re not going to use, then you’re missing out on a great opportunity to maximize your storage space! Use closet drawers for extra space to keep your clothes. You can use them to store a range of items, from bulky jeans to slimmer gym wear! What’s amazing about closet drawers is that they make your closet look less cluttered, and it’s so easy to pull out each drawer and find your clothes in the compartments!

If you have minimal space at the bottom of your closet but still want to make that space practical, opt for cubed shelving with only one column. With this, it’s very simple to organize and separate your clothes and accessories into different compartments!

Stackable storage baskets

It can be a hassle rummaging through your closet shelf, trying to find your clothes. Sometimes, when you’ve neatly folded and stacked your clothes, they can topple over if it’s too high, making the space get (frustratingly) messy quickly. To avoid this, install stackable storage baskets on top of your shelf. This way, your clothes are contained in specifics section of your closet, keeping it neat and organized.

Storage Ottoman

One of the easiest small bedroom storage ideas to keep items organized in a contained space is to get an Ottoman. Of course, the amazing thing about storage Ottomans is that, yes, they’re for storage, but you can also use them as seats or even a footrest! As someone who didn’t have a linen closet in my college dorm, having a storage Ottoman was perfect for storing my bedsheets, pillows, and towels! You can really store anything in these, which is why they’re the best!

Ladder storage shelf

There’s just something about ladder storage shelves that makes them so practical yet so stylish! I love how you can really personalize your ladder storage to suit the vibe of your bedroom, too! Having a ladder storage unit as a bedside table is an especially great idea for maximizing vertical storage space in your room. Unlike regular bedside tables, you can get ladder storage shelves with 3 or more tiers and still access at least one tier when reaching out from your bed (without stretching your arm too high). This means that having a ladder storage unit is super convenient to have in your bedroom!

Rolling carts are another alternative to having a bedside table or just an additional chance to organize items in your bedroom! Best of all, they have wheels for you to move them anywhere at your convenience! If you don’t have a dresser, bookshelf, or much desk space, then a storage trolley is the perfect place to store your makeup, skincare, haircare, books, portable gaming consoles, lamp, and alarm clock!

Pegboard

Your bedroom walls may be bare, but they can be put to good use with a pegboard. When attaching a pegboard to your bedroom wall, you can either drill it in or use command strips to keep it up. Whatever way you decide to install it, you’ll have space to hold and hang your miscellaneous items. You can use a combination of pegboard shelves and hangers to organize everything to your liking.

Drawer dividers

No matter how many complicated folding techniques you have seen, nothing beats having drawer dividers. Drawer dividers are especially great for organizing your underwear, socks, and bras. Just place them inside your drawer, roll your underwear, bras, and socks, and then organize them into the divided sections.

Alternatively, you can opt for drawer organizer boxes, which do the same job. Essentially, organize your underwear, bras, and socks into separate boxes and store them in your drawer.
